The Atlin Museum

The Atlin Museum finds its home in what was once the Atlin School. Before the construction of the schoolhouse in 1902, learning in Atlin occurred in various makeshift locations such as a tent, a drafty old hotel, an abandoned hospital building, or a church. The new school, established in 1902, was equipped with a wood stove, a basement for recreation, and two outhouses.

As the single-room schoolhouse became insufficient, new facilities were established in 1968, and the original building was relocated to its current position on Trainor Ave. Converted into the Atlin Museum, it opened its doors in 1972, featuring displays and artifacts that vividly depict Atlin's early history.

Among the museum's outdoor exhibits stands an IRI-A steam shovel, a unique artifact that is the only operational steam shovel of its kind in North America.

The AHS Museum closes for the winter season, though arrangements can be made for private viewings. Contact the Atlin Historical Society. Thanks to everyone who stopped by this season to check out the displays, artifacts and archives. Your support is highly valued and we look forward to seeing you on your next visit.
